As we come to December, its shortening days and cooling weather prompt us to seek light and warmth where we can, and the month’s holidays feature light illuminating darkness. For all of us, this can be a time to reflect on what it means to bring our own light into the world and into one another’s lives. In a season often marked by anxiety—whether it’s coping with personal challenges, or with the meaning of recent election results, or preparing for changes ahead—we can find comfort and strength in our vibrant local community.
At East Rock Creek Village, we have the power and opportunity to shine our lights. This can be in the small yet profound ways we show that we care for each other — whether it’s driving a neighbor to an appointment, picking up groceries, having a friendly conversation, or simply sharing a smile. Such acts of kindness ripple through our community, creating a glow that can brighten our darkest days.
HOLICAY PARTY
I hope ERCV members and volunteers will join me in celebrating this spirit of connection at our festive Holiday Party this coming Sunday, December 8th, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Washington Ethical Society. This festive gathering will be a time for members and volunteers to enjoy food, drink, and good cheer, strengthening the connections that make our Village so special.
GIVING TUESDAY
As 2024 comes to an end, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you who have renewed your ERCV membership and/or made an end-of-year donation. If you haven’t already done this, please consider making a tax-deductible donation this month. Your support allows us to continue offering programs and services that make a meaningful difference in our community. Also, think about a friend or neighbor who might benefit from becoming part of ERCV, or someone newly retired who might find joy in volunteering. By sharing our light and inviting others to join us, we create an ever brighter and stronger community.
In the coming year let’s continue to create a Village that not only supports its members but also inspires hope more broadly. For now, let’s use this time to celebrate our connections, embrace new possibilities, and together shine our light brightly at whatever comes in 2025.
