We are being reminded, last month and this, just how intense DC summers can be—sweltering heat one day, sudden downpours the next. I was certainly sorry that the unpredictable weather forced us to postpone our June Jazz concert. We’re now looking at weekends in August or early September to try again and will let you know as soon as we have a date nailed down!
JULY CONNECTIONS
Despite the weather, ERCV is going strong. Come cool off at our happy hour at Jinya on Thursday, July 10th or join our Lunch Bunch at Mi Rancho on Wednesday, July 23rd. The next day, Thursday, July 24th, we’ll explore a new art gallery in the old Newseum building, now part of Johns Hopkins University. We invite you to join our weekly walks, fall prevention exercise classes, and chair yoga sessions. Please take a look at the calendar section for details on these and all our other activities.
INTERDEPENDENCE
As we mark Independence Day, it’s worth noting the contrast with last month’s Flag Day military parade here in DC and the “No Kings Day” events across the country. It’s a good time to reflect on both our political and personal independence as well as our interdependence—the ways we care for and rely on each other. If you’ve been thinking about getting more involved with ERCV, please consider becoming a volunteer. We offer training and flexible opportunities to help others in ways that will work for you. Whether it’s a ride to the doctor, a friendly visit, or helping with events, every act of kindness matters.
A DECADE OF SERVICE
Looking ahead, ERCV is approaching a milestone: its 10th anniversary in 2026! We’re beginning to plan how to celebrate and how to build support for our long-term sustainability, especially with reductions in DC funding anticipated. As always, I’m sure we’ll meet the moment creatively with the help of our incredible community.
Wishing you a comfortable, safe, and connected July. I hope to see you soon!
