As spring gives way to summer, the days are long, the sun is bright, and our Village is filled with the promise and possibilities of a new season.

I’m excited that ERCV will be hosting its 2nd annual live jazz concert at The Parks at Walter Reed.  This year we will be at the Marketplace Plaza, near the Whole Foods Market and the newly opened Charmery ice cream parlor, from 4 to 6pm on Sunday, June 9. This outdoor concert is free and open to all.  Since we will have seating and some light refreshments, we hope you will register HERE to attend. Jazz vocalist James Zimmerman and his 5-piece band will perform a repertoire that includes the best of jazz standards, blues, bebop, swing, Broadway musicals, and Bossa Nova.Bring your family, friends, and neighbors for a delightful afternoon of music and community.

If you prefer online events, check out our June wedding-themed bingo game on Thursday June 13th, hosted by Shelley Moskowitz. You’re sure to have a good time and will likely win a prize or two. On the day after the Juneteenth federal holiday, Thursday June 20th, we invite you to join us for an Armchair Travel visit to Ghanawith ERCV Board member Roger Glass. Get a glimpse of Ghana’s beauty, culture, and history without leaving the comfort of your home. And on Thursday June 27th, set down your electronics and come on out to our boisterous Happy Hour (and a half) from 4:00 to 5:30pm at Olive Lounge in Takoma Park.

One way that our Village continues to grow and learn is by getting feedback from you!  ERCV is joining with other DC Villages to conduct a citywide member survey throughout the month of June. By participating you will help us gain a deeper understanding of your current experience with our Village and how we can better serve you in the future. We encourage each member of your household to complete the survey. Your answers are confidential. You can take the survey online or on paper. If you need assistance, we have wonderful volunteers who are ready to help. You can find the survey HERE. Of course, please don’t hesitate to share ideas and concerns not covered in the survey. ERCV is always looking to do better as a caring, volunteer-led, joyful community.

Let’s embrace the fun of summer together. If you haven’t already done so, please remember to vote in DC’s June 4th primary election. And, if you can, go watch the city’s Pride Parade on June 8th. I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events and getting your valuable feedback through the survey. Finally, I want to commend and remember the good fathers and grandfathers in our community and wish all a very happy Father’s Day this June 16th. I offer a special note of love to my own father Ben Mackoff, whom I’m grateful to still have in my life. I wish everyone good health and a June to enjoy.
